Has anyone else noticed John sometimes plays guitar in workshop class? He softly plays in the room while students are writing. The atmosphere is really soothing. This is a wonderful method to get students to relax and open their minds to get good writing ideas, and I’m sure it can produce a calm and confident classroom. Maybe other teachers should learn to play instruments. A BAE band, perhaps….?

David Wolfe (also known as Wolfman), our beloved TOEFL teacher, informed me that he had some students with really incredible scores last month. Check this out: Giorgia from Italy got a 107, and Anastasia from Russia got a 105! Amazing! The TOEFL is a very long, very difficult and sometimes very important English test, so scores like this are really impressive. Big congratulations ladies, but is anyone going to beat Arne Nowak’s incredible 110? Come on people!

Today I took some students on a field trip to the Samuel Adams brewery. We learned a lot about how beer is made and got to see some of the equipment that’s used to brew this world-famous local beverage. Also, we learned about special edition beers, including one that is so rare it costs $150 per bottle. Can you believe it!? Unfortunately, we couldn’t taste any of this luxury beer, but we did get to sample three different flavors of Sam Adams for FREE! It was such a fun time and nice way to practice English. Thanks for the great idea and navigation, Alec!
